Hello everyone,

As you know, I love snacks, and I love getting mail. Put the two together and you get a monthly VeganCuts subscription! Today, I received my February subscription box, and I thought I’d share the contents with you.

But first, did you miss my January VeganCuts review? If so, check it out now!

Restaurant Review: Forage Public House

Hello everyone,FullSizeRender_2

About a year  ago, many of my ‘westside’ friends started talking about this new restaurant
called Forage Public House in Lakewood. I took a quick look at the menu and decided it wasn’t for me. It’s a farm to table concept, heavy on meat and dairy. What’s for a vegan to love?

I’ll admit, I was quick to judge. Perhaps it was because I’d never been to cult classic Deagan’s in Lakewood either, and after all, this is Chef Demetrio’s newest American gastropub.  Continue reading “Restaurant Review: Forage Public House”

Vegan Lemon Meringue Pie (& a pep talk)

Hello friends,

I have a confession. A kitchen nightmare confession. Over the past year, vegan blogs have been exploding with “aquafaba” recipes.  This is a nickname given to “bean” water that comes from a can of chick peas, cannelini, or great northern beans that usually goes down the drain. It can easily replace an egg in many vegan culinary dishes. By far, the greatest aquafaba achievement has been the discovery that it can be used to make vegan meringue. How cool is that?

I decided that I wanted to see what all the internet fuss was about and start out with something “easy.” I chose vegan meringue cookies. Boy was I wrong. Continue reading “Vegan Lemon Meringue Pie (& a pep talk)”

VeganEgg Omelette by Follow Your Heart

Hello everyone,

Let’s talk about eggs. Even though I’ve only been vegan since 2009, for the vast majority of my vegetarian years, I didn’t eat eggs. The only eggs I recall liking were these odd “scrambled eggs” that my mom made…in the microwave. I know, I know. Eggs in the microwave. I don’t know why she made them that way, and I don’t know why I liked them. I think it’s because it gave them a slightly firmer consistency.

Anyway, the point is, I never really liked eggs. So many pre-vegans are worried about missing all their old dairy favorites, but I never really had that problem. That said, I was never concerned with finding vegan alternatives. I’ve always loved a good tofu scramble since that doesn’t taste anything like eggs. Restaurant Review: B52 Cafe in Pittsburgh

Hello everyone,FullSizeRender

While I have been in Cleveland for almost seven years, I spent most of my life a short trip
from Pittsburgh, PA. My family is still in the area, and I am an avid Steelers fan. When the Steelers made it into the playoffs, I knew I would be making the trek back home to watch the game(s). What better excuse to spend a few days in the city and try out some new coffee shops and restaurants?

B52 just opened in the up and coming Lawrenceville neighborhood. B52 is an abbreviation for the cafe’s location which is the corner of Butler and 52nd Streets. This is the second venture of Allegro Hearth Bakery creator, Omar Abuhejleh, and I think he’s onto something very special.  Continue reading “Restaurant Review: B52 Cafe in Pittsburgh”
