Settlers of Catan Vegan Nachos!

Hello everyone,

A few weeks ago my Facebook feed became flooded with links to a Nerdist article about Settlers of Catan Nachos. Two of my favorite things in one! Can I get the longest road of Settlers nachos? I’m not sure how that would work, but I’ll try! I’m determined!

Obviously, as soon as I saw the article, I knew I had to have a game night and make these nachos. It was a no brainer. And really, who doesn’t love a good nacho bar? It’s cheap, it’s relatively easy, and your guests can customize their plate to their own liking.

These Settlers of Catan nachos are made possible by purchasing small hexagonal weigh boats to house the ingredients. Then you simply divvy up your nacho ingredients and voila! You have a beautifully colorful, edible game day snack! Continue reading “Settlers of Catan Vegan Nachos!”

Review: Ben & Jerry’s Non-Dairy Ice Cream

 Hi all,

So unless you’ve been hiding under a rock you’ve probably heard the buzz about the new non-dairy Ben & Jerry’s product line. It’s been selling out around town, but this week I finally obtained one!

There are four certified vegan flavors—meaning no eggs, dairy or honey. The flavors are  P.B. & Cookies; Coffee Caramel Fudge; Chunky Monkey; and Fudge Brownie. The ice creams are made with almond milk to provide a creamy texture and “blank canvas” for taste. Continue reading “Review: Ben & Jerry’s Non-Dairy Ice Cream”

Recipe: Vegan German Chocolate Cake

Hello everyone,IMG_1880

I’ve known that my partner’s favorite cake is “German Chocolate Cake” for a little while now, but I never set out to make it. Perhaps I found it a bit daunting. Or I didn’t want to tarnish his favorite cake.

Well, I finally decided there is no time like the present. Like any good baker, I first did some research on the cake’s history and found a very basic recipe to veganize. It turns out the cake isn’t even from Germany! Continue reading “Recipe: Vegan German Chocolate Cake”

Restaurant Review: Forage Public House

Hello everyone,FullSizeRender_2

About a year  ago, many of my ‘westside’ friends started talking about this new restaurant
called Forage Public House in Lakewood. I took a quick look at the menu and decided it wasn’t for me. It’s a farm to table concept, heavy on meat and dairy. What’s for a vegan to love?

I’ll admit, I was quick to judge. Perhaps it was because I’d never been to cult classic Deagan’s in Lakewood either, and after all, this is Chef Demetrio’s newest American gastropub.  Continue reading “Restaurant Review: Forage Public House”

VeganEgg Omelette by Follow Your Heart

Hello everyone,

Let’s talk about eggs. Even though I’ve only been vegan since 2009, for the vast majority of my vegetarian years, I didn’t eat eggs. The only eggs I recall liking were these odd “scrambled eggs” that my mom made…in the microwave. I know, I know. Eggs in the microwave. I don’t know why she made them that way, and I don’t know why I liked them. I think it’s because it gave them a slightly firmer consistency.

Anyway, the point is, I never really liked eggs. So many pre-vegans are worried about missing all their old dairy favorites, but I never really had that problem. That said, I was never concerned with finding vegan alternatives. I’ve always loved a good tofu scramble since that doesn’t taste anything like eggs.
