While in Los Angeles, Cory and I got to see his dad who relocated a few years ago. These visits are always a special treat, and generally seem to include some yummy meals too! This time we tried\u00a0Sun Cafe Organic Cuisine<\/a> in Studio City, Los Angeles.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The restaurant is spacious, and the outdoor seating area is a big plus. There’s even a cushioned patio area around a fire pit (though it’s really a long stretch of fire, not a circle). The menu included everything from hand made pizzas, to sandwiches, to raw lasagna. No matter what your dietary restriction, you could certainly find a delicious, mouth watering menu item here. As an added bonus, the coffee was really good.<\/p>\n

I ordered the Roasted Vegetable Curry, which included a hearty mix of potatoes, carrots, bell peppers, spinach, onions, and tomatoes cooked in a mild yellow curry sauce over quinoa. The curry was mild, but still had a robust flavor. I still can’t place all the spices, but I know thyme was used! It was the best yellow curry I’ve ever had. I normally stick to green, but this made the cut.<\/p>\n

Cory’s dad ordered the Mac & Cheese \u00a0which was made with a quinoa pasta with tomato & cashew sauce cooked in a cast iron skillet, and a saut\u00e9ed kale salad. He said the mac & cheese was the most convincing vegan version he’s ever had, and that speaks volumes. He said the texture was spot on and quite creamy. It certainly looked amazing. The kale salad was cooked well too, but the show stopper was most certainly the Mac.<\/p>\n

Last but not least, Cory ordered the Portobello Sandwich. This included marinated portobello, avocado, tomatoes, spinach, pecan crumble, cashew cheese, and special sauce on a multi grain bun served with another Cory favorite – mashed potatoes. Cory said the marinated portobellos were some of the best he’s ever had. I tend to steer clear of mushrooms, so I can’t say how this was first hand, but Cory’s clean plate indicates that this was a tasty meal.<\/p>\n

Since it’s always a special treat when we see Cory’s dad, we figured we deserved to share a dessert too. We opted for the Key Lime Pie. I have to say, it wasn’t my all time favorite vegan take on key lime pie, but it was good. The pie was served cold and it had a consistency similar to an ice cream cake. The key lime flavor was definitely noticeable but not over powering.<\/p>\n
