]]>Are you busy preparing for the long holiday weekend? If you’re like me, that means three trips to the grocery store to pick up all the items you keep forgetting and hours in the kitchen obsessing over which side salad to make for your guests. Well I’ve got a helping of 4th of July Party Ideas & Recipes ready to go. And the one thing I know I don’t have to worry about is which faux meat to grill.
My hands down, favorite veggie dog is the LightLife Jumbo Smart Dog. This slightly larger dog actually fits the length of traditional hot dog buns, and it has the perfect texture + taste combo. Try it topped with a little mustard, ketchup, red onion and vegan cheese.
It’s so good and without the guilt—it’sonly 100 calories with 3.5g of fat and 4g carbs, plus it has 13g of protein! Even better, they are vegan and non-GMO. Healthy and hot dogs don’t exactly go together like pb&j, but this veggie dog seems to do the trick!
These veggie dogs are especially good if you lightly char them on the grill. And I do mean lightly. If you let them go too long, they’ll blacken and get a little “rubbery.” However, if you cook them just long enough, it makes for the perfect summer snack! If it’s a rainy day youcan also use a griddle. As you head to the store this weekend, remember to pick some of these up. Right now you can save $2.00 off any two LightLife products through Mambo Sprouts.
Okay. So now you know which veggie dog to cook. What else? Well for me, I’ll probably whip up a creamy, vegan old-fashioned coleslaw or maybe opt for an asian-inspired slaw. Of course, I have to make my signature macaroni salad, and maybe a summer bean salad, too. Plus, you can’t forget dessert! Perhaps I’ll go with vegan Rice Krispie Treats or maybe some melty, satisfying s’mores if the weather is just right for a fire.
Tell me, what are you planning for your holiday weekend?
Cheers!
Jocelyn

]]>How’d you spend your weekend? Eating junk food, watching the game, or at least, watching Lady Gaga and Beyonce? I actually love football, but I wasn’t terribly invested in either team. I’m a die hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan. That said, I love any excuse to yell at the TV and eat some tasty vegan comfort food.
This year my partner decided to try his hand at vegan potato skins. Veganizing your basic potato skin is pretty simple. Instead of real cheese, use your favorite non-dairy alternative, such as Daiya Cheddar Style Shreds. Instead of real sour cream, use something like Tofutti Sour Supreme Cream. It’s as easy as that!
We decided to try to convince ourselves that these would be slightly healthy so we opted for a broccoli based filling, complimented with onion and garlic. I have to say these potato skins were amazingly delicious. I had somehow forgotten how good potato skins are even though I used to order them all the time.
The skins were slightly crispy, just a tad salty, and the filling was oh-so tasty! I mean, how can you go wrong with potato, cheese, and sour cream? You just can’t! Check out the recipe and photos below. Let me know what you think and if you have a favorite game day recipe!
Cheers!

]]>I wanted to let you know that there are a few good deals on vegan products. If you shop at Whole Foods, be sure to pick up a copy of their “Whole Deal” coupon book from customer service. Right now you can save $1.00/1 on Gardein products through the end of September.
The Whole Deal also includes a few other great coupons including 75¢ off any 1 Sweet Earth Righteous Meats Product; $1.00 off any 1 DREAM Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert; and $1.00 off any 1 Lightlife Product. If you haven’t already tried any Sweet Earth products, please don’t wait any longer! The company makes a variety of veggie burgers, a fake’n, and a plethora of burritos. Hands down, the burritos are my favorite product. There are four vegan flavors which I’ve listed below in my order of preference:
If you don’t live near a Whole Foods, check your local Target. Many of the Cleveland area Targets actually carried the Sweet Earth burritos before Whole Foods.
Lastly, Beyond Meat hasn’t yet updated their monthly $1.00/1 coupon, but you can use this link to get to the coupon once it is updated.
As always, don’t forget to check out all my tips on how to save!
Cheers!
